In thinking about the Milan meeting again we would like to make some more suggestions regarding our use of time in Italy.
We are expecting to produce a brochure documenting our network between now and March, 2011, and in this publication we would like to include something like a mission statement expressing the goals and objectives of our network. This relatively simple one-page statement in the brochure could be the beginning of a manifesto we could discuss in Milan. We still expect to send all partners a proposal for the brochure in December, meaning in the next week or so!
As much as other partners are interested, we would like to continue the discussion of transferring methods and strategies such as WOHNPORTAL and EXPERIMENTDAYS to other cities.
We would also like to learn from Milan, meaning we would like to see collaborative housing best practices and hear about model strategies for supporting sustainable and affordable community and co-housing in Italy.
We would like to spend some of the time on practical things such as discussing and working on common grant applications!
Finally, we want to work with all partners on the publication of a book illustrating european collaborative housing best practices, and consider an exhibition which could be developed as part of the book publication.
We look forward to hearing ideas from all of the other european partners!

Thanks Nancy for the ideas regarding research and for comparing housing projects as well as situations. We should further develop these ideas.
We are working on a proposal for the first experimentcity europe brochure, which would document our various best practices, our respective organisations and the situations in our various cities and countries. The brochure could be a cooperation between id22: experimentcity and the Stiftung trias who is producing publications for collaborative housing projects on a regular basis. We hope to be sending all european partners a proposal in the next week or so - in order to get feedback and further ideas for this brochure.

We are currently looking into a range of funding possibilitites to continue our work both locally and with the european partners internationally. We expect to begin with the work on grant applications by the end of December. But first we want to agree with the european partners as to strategy, goals and objectives for the european platform. We are also talking with Land Berlin about cooperations that would include working together on grant applications. We should be exchanging ideas about possible funding and grants over the next weeks.

Speaking from Berlin we have the following ideas regarding the Milan conference, much of which has already been communicated over the last weeks and months.

The follow-up meeting is planned for 24-25, and perhaps extending to 26 March, 2011, in Milan and is being planned jointly by id22 in Berlin and the Politecnico di Milano, department INDACO. Each of the 9 excity europe partner organizations will send 1-2 representatives to the follow-up meeting, making it a smaller, shorter and more concentrated gathering than the first Berlin meeting. Most of the participants will be accomodated together for 2 nights similar to the situation experienced at the ufaFabrik in Berlin. The main aims of the follow-up meeting will be to review the results of the Berlin conference and associated research, to make plans regarding future exhibitions and publications of the final project results, as well as discuss the further development of the experimentcity europe project, including the transferral of information through the participatory website and other future collaborations.

The Brochure should be already printed and ready for distribution by the Milan conference! Perhaps we can together work on a book that would combine our best practices and ideas about collaborative housing in Europe!

Long term aims for the platform after the Milan conference will be to transfer communications methods such as the WOHNPORTAL and EXPERIMENTDAYS fair between partners, to make arrangements for an EXPERIMENTDAYS-type conference to be held in Milan and to expand to include new partners from other areas of Europe involved in supporting collaborative housing.

After experiencing the social housing conference in Brussels in the last week I am thinking we should agree to disagree for the moment regarding the use of either the term cohousing or collaborative housing, or even convivial housing. For now we do want to further develop our international glossary of relevant words. As can be seen in the experimentcity online glossary we have a good list of English terms, usually German translations and often with Swedish equivalents. For the Brochure we will be editing and printing between now and March, 2011, we would like to refine and perhaps add to this glossary. We will most definitely at least include the English and German translations, and will see how far we come with words from other countries and langauges. We still see that the development of a common langauge is very important for further exchanges of experiences, projects, and strategies!
